Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2023, at United Methodist Church, Cresbard, with Pastor Shawn Stoll presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at the Cresbard Cemetery. The family welcomes you to wear casual clothing, just as Bob would love.
Robert “Bob or Bobby” Lewis Wegner was born at his family home in Mansfield, Brown County, SD on January 3, 1933, to Albert and Emma (Heil) Wegner, where he grew up and attended rural school.
Robert was drafted into the United States Army on January 3, 1957. He did his basic training at Fort Ord at Monterey Bay, California and was stationed at Camp Desert Rock in Nevada which was a testing site for atomic bombs. He achieved the rank of specialist 4th class and upon being honorably discharged on December 11, 1958, he returned to Cresbard to farm. In addition to farming, Robert worked at the Standard Oil Service Station in Cresbard as a mechanic for several years.
Robert was an avid supporter of the Cresbard Community Center and delivered senior meals around town for many years.
He enjoyed gathering with friends for coffee, meals, and conversations. He enjoyed all of God’s creation from growing crops to being a rescuer of dogs and cats. Robert was a collector of engines, small and large in his shops, and tried to create a way to repurpose many items. His most cherished times were the monthly birthday gatherings, card playing, laughing, and visiting with his siblings.
Robert is survived by his sisters: Alice (Rueben) Miller of Aberdeen and Ruby Bosanko of Ipswich; brothers: Jimmy Wegner of Aberdeen and Gary Wegner of Cresbard; special friend: Candice (Melius) Lynch; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Simon; stepsisters: Genevieve Wegner and Opal Gabler; and stepbrothers: Lotus Graham and Delbert Wegner.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care of the Faulkton Area Medical Center Staff and Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton.
