Roger A. Joachim, 75, of Agar, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor David Otten presiding. Burial will follow in the Onida Cemetery. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Roger Alan Joachim was born to Oscar W. and Esther (Buechler) Joachim on May 31, 1946 in Gettysburg, SD. Roger attended Agar Elementary and Agar High School, graduating in 1964. While in school he participated in basketball and track. Roger was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Agar, where he was baptized, and confirmed on May 25, 1961. In later years his membership was transferred to Emmanuel Church in Gettysburg.
After graduating high school, he entered Joachim’s School of Hard Knock’s and worked on the family farm. On January 12, 1974, he married Helen Schneider of Rockham, SD, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, SD, and unfortunately divorced in 1991. On March 29, 1980, they welcomed their one and only son, Alan Greg Joachim, into the world.
Roger enjoyed working with his father and then his son on the farm. Roger’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, reading, and playing cards. In later years he started to take a few trips with his son, and he liked driving to places to see the countryside. He always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Harvest time was one of his favorite times of farming. He enjoyed combining soybeans and then he couldn’t wait to get to the corn.
Roger is survived by his son, Alan Joachim of Gettysburg; former wife, Helen Seefeldt of LaMoure, ND; brother, Kent (Kay) Joachim of Gettysburg; sister, Edie Falkenhagen of Agar; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Esther Joachim; sister, Karen Griese; and brothers-in-law: Donald Griese and Kenny Falkenhagen.
