Roger Kraft, 93, Hoven, SD, died Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, SD.
Roger Jacob Kraft was born December 4, 1929, in Aberdeen to Roy and Mary Anna (Kirchgasler) Kraft. He grew up and worked on the family farm in Ipswich, SD until he married Anna Mae Vetch, from Roscoe, SD, on September 17, 1951. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October 1951 and served in the Korean War as a vehicle driver for the 3rd Armed Division from Ft Knox, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned to his family farm after the Army and in 1957 he moved and worked as a farmhand in Onaka, SD. In July 1962 he started working for Hoven Equity Elevator in Hoven and medically retired in 1990. Although retired, Roger kept busy helping his kids with various projects and as a volunteer EMT. Roger was a member of the Hoven City Council for five terms, St Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Council of Knights of Columbus, Swan Lake Sportsman Club, the John J Peters American Legion Post 159 and performed services for The Honor Guard. Roger loved to fish, hunt, play cards, and watch TV.
Roger is survived by his children Michael (Rose) Kraft of Britton, SD; Maryann (Gary) DeRouchey of Seneca, SD; Ronald Kraft of Rapid City, SD; Linda (Richard) Lemler of Britton; Bonnie (Michael) Henning of Aberdeen; Mark Kraft of Hoven; Lori (Roger) DuBois of Emerado, ND; Jason (Kelly) Kraft of Redfield, SD; and Jonathan (Jenny) Kraft of Harrisburg, SD; 20 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 granddaughters.
Roger’s funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, led by Father Darin Schmidt. The John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, SD, will provide an Honor Guard. Interment will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, with rites by the SD Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team and the VFW Post #1273, Rapid City. Casketbearers will be Roger’s sons.
