EAGLE BUTTE, SD – Roland Miner Jr., 65, of Eagle Butte, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Monument Health, Rapid City.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Saturday, July 6, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery, White Horse. A wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2024, at the church, with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.
Roland Wilfred Miner Jr. was born February 14, 1959, to Cora Mae (Blue Coat) Marshall and Roland Miner Sr. in Eagle Butte, SD. He grew up and lived in Eagle Butte, SD most of his life. He graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School and went on to college at Untied Tribes in Bismarck, ND.
Roland almost made a career in acting in Native American movies but decided to come home after Dances with Wolves. What he loves most is visiting with family and friends.
Roland is survived by daughters, Chasity (Cap) Miner, Charity (Nicolas) Miner, Natasha (Wallace) Miner-Rooks, all of Eagle Butte, SD, Lorraine (Donald) Miner-Whiteman of Spearfish, SD, Cheyenne Miner of El Paso, TX, and Sharon Miner of Dupree, SD; sons, Roland Miner III of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin Eagle Heart of Rapid City, SD, Dillon and Devin Miner of El Paso, TX; sister, Gayle Dupris of Eagle Butte, SD; auntie, Margie Clown; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roland was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Mae (Blue Coat) Marshall; father, Roland Miner Sr.; sister, Sharon Miner; brothers: Gary Miner, Robert “Bob” Lofton, Alfred “JB” Lofton, and Dino Lofton; son, John Miner; grandparents: Lorraine and Walter Miner, Lillian and Robert Blue Coat; and granddaughter, Christian Mexican.
