Celebration of Life Services for Ronald, 82, and Irma, 80, Hettich of McLaughlin will be at 10 AM, MT, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the UCC Church in McLaughlin. Memorial visitation will be from 5-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM Friday at the church. Ronald and Irma passed away Tuesday March 22, 2022 in Mesa, AZ due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Wayne Hettich was born on October 11, 1939 to Rudolph R. Hettich and Henriette (Wolfer) Hettich at McIntosh, SD. He attended the Congregational Church with his parents in Selfridge and McLaughlin. He attended school in a country school about 4-5 miles from the farm that they lived on south of Selfridge, ND, until high school where he attended the McLaughlin Public School and graduated from there. He loved the farm and chose to farm and ranch with his father until his fathers death on April 20, 1965. While on the farm Ronnie met the love of his life, Irma Giese, from McIntosh, SD, and on June 24, 1962, they were married in McIntosh, SD. They lived on the farm in a trailer where they helped with the farming and ranching operation. In 1970 his mother sold the farm and moved to McLaughlin. Ron and Irma also moved to McLaughlin where they both built new homes and continued to live there. Ron bought some farm land and continued to farm. Ronnie bought a hay hauling business and in the fall hauled many tons of hay for the farmers both near and far in the area. Ronnie was a good mechanic and could fix most everything even if he duck taped it to get to where he was going or home. He helped many people in a pinch.
Irma Marie Giese was born on January 11, 1942, to Edwin Giese and Lydia (Moser) Giese at McIntosh, SD. Irma attended school in the McIntosh Public School and graduated from McIntosh in 1960. After graduation she attended college in Bismarck, ND, for accounting, and came back and worked at the ACS office in McIntosh, then in 1962 she married Ronald Hettich and they made their home on the farm where his parents lived until Ron’s father died in a plane accident. They then moved to McLaughlin where they built a new home and raised their family. To this union there was three children born. Ricky Ronald Hettich, Rhonda Marie Hettich, and Rachell Lynn Hettich. All the children were born in McLaughlin, SD. Irma was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She was very active in many community functions.
Irma took the job of secretary at the McLaughlin Livestock Company where she occupied that job for 15 years. Ron and Irma purchased the Jack and Jill store in McLaughlin and ran that for 11 years when they sold it. Irma was a substitute teacher for the McLaughlin School for a few years. They remodeled a small garage into the Little C Store on the south side of their home and ran that for a number of years. Both Ron and Irma were very active in the church in McLaughlin throughout their lives. Ron and Irma loved to visit family and friends and travel. They were also very helpful to others who needed help.
They decided to retire and bought a trailer in Mesa, AZ, to live during the winter months. They continued to live there till the tragic accident took both of their lives.
They were preceded in death by Ron’s parents, Rudolph and Henriette (Wolfer) Hettich, sister, Charlotte who died in infancy, Irma’s parents, Edwin and Lydia (Moser) Giese, and a nephew, Brad Martell.
They leave their children, Ricky Hettich, McLaughlin, Rhonda and Jeff Brooks, Littleton, CO, Rachell and Travis Kelsch, McLaughlin, grandchildren, Patrick (Justice) and Grayson Hettich, Wyatt, Lakesha, Ricky, Zaden, and Aleah Hettich, Lexus Kelsch, and Logan (Amber) Kelsch.
Irma is also survived by a sister, Delora (Robert) Huddleston and children, Robbie Huddleston, Rocky (Laura) Huddleston, and River Huddleston of Martin, SD, a brother, Thomas (Janice) Giese of Carson, ND and their children, Travis (Gerri) Giese and children, Delaney and McKenley Giese, of Mandan, ND., Kellie (Daniel) Dixon, and children, Damon, Kaylee, and Kaid Dixon of Mina, SD, sister, Carolyn (Richard) Martell of McLaughlin, SD. and their children, Brian (Camille) Martell and Kimora of Mandan, ND.
