Ronald L. Krier, 87, died Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, August 22, 2025 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Brian P. Simon, Celebrant. Military rites will be presented by the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, SD.
Visitation commences 4:00 PM Thursday with a 5:30PM Wake Service at St. Anthony’s Church.

Ronald Leo Krier, son of Della (Koehn) and Leo Krier was born September 11, 1937 in Hoven, SD. He was brought up at the Krier farm seven miles NW of Hoven. His formal education consisted of St. Anthony’s Catholic Parochial School and Hoven High School (Class of 1956). He was Homecoming King his senior year and was a Greyhound Track and Field standout where he belonged to a relay team whose school record still stands. Ron served his country in the United States Army, being inducted August 2, 1956. Following his honorable discharge on May 2, 1958, he returned to Hoven. Ron and Carol Kaup were married on October 29, 1960 at Hoven.
Ron was employed at Blue Valley Dairy and the Hoven Equity Exchange elevator. His primary vocation was custodian at St. Anthony’s Parochial school where he started in 1972. In addition to the school, he also cared for the Church and the Cemetery. After 28 years of service, he retired in 2000. In June 2017, the couple relocated to Bowdle where they lived for the rest of their life. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was the Catholic Aid Financial Secretary. He also belonged to Royal Neighbors of America. Ron’s pastimes included fishing, pheasant hunting, following his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities (and night crawler hunting with them), pulling for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, traveling, and reading newspapers and clipping out articles. He also was a music lover and sang in the Spirited ’76 during the bicentennial year.
Ron is survived by one son—Michael (Carrie) Krier of Britton, SD; four daughters—Kathleen (Ken) Vogel of Akaska, SD, Karen (Dwayne) Jacobs of Tolstoy, SD, Pamela (Vern) Grismer of Bowdle, and Kristi (Stacey) Warner of Britton; three brothers—Harlan (Gerry) Krier of St. Louis, MO, David (Julie) Krier of Maple Grove, MN, and Daniel (Lori) Krier of Springfield, SD; Sisters-in-law, Janet Krier, Donna Guiliani, Jan Mangelson, and Susie Wingen; brother-in-law, Duane Kaup; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, on August 30, 2018; his father, Leo, on February 17, 1996; his mother, Della, on April 18, 2006; one brother, John; and one grandson, Riley Grismer.
Services are in care of Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
