WEBSTER, SD – Rosalie Joy Olson, affectionately known as Rosie, passed away on September 13, 2024, at the age of 68 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from a brain aneurysm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 10am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Reverend Brandon Lewis officiating.
Rosie was born on February 2, 1956, in Webster, South Dakota, to Norman and Anna (Tople) Monson. She was raised in Fort Pierre, SD, where she attended all of her school years.
Rosie met the love of her life, Raymond Olson, in 1974 and they were married on May 14, 1977, at Steamboat Park in Pierre. Theirs was a true partnership that blossomed into a family with the arrival of their two sons, David and Shane.
Rosie dedicated her professional life to nurturing the young minds and hearts of children, providing daycare for many years before retirement. Her love for children extended well beyond her professional endeavors, as she continued to care for her grandchildren, spreading joy and wisdom in her gentle way. Rosie and her husband, Ray, embraced the joys of retirement and could always be found together. Rosie’s interests were deeply rooted in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing the time she had with her loved ones above all else.
Rosie’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and she is survived by her devoted husband, Raymond; her sons, David (Airryn) Olson and Shane (Michelle) Olson, all of Pierre; her cherished four grandchildren – George, Charlotte, Henry and Ava; her brother, Irvin Monson; her sister, Kathy Fuller; her brother-in-law, Dennis Olson; and a host of in-laws, nieces including Barb and Karen, their families, and numerous other nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, James and Rodney Monson, Norma Meyer, and Stella Regennitter.
