Rosemary Miller, 95, of Polo, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Faulkton Area Medical Center with two of her nieces at her side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2021, at St. Liborius Church, Polo, with Father Randy Phillips presiding. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Polo. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the church.
Rosemary Miller (Eileen Frances Miller) daughter of the late John and Celia (Esser) Miller, was born December 30, 1925 in the Polo Store, Polo, SD.
Today we celebrate Aunt Rosie’s life. As she would often say, “No pity parties for me.” Another favorite quote of hers was “Lived It – Loved It!” and that is how she lived her life. Aunt Rosie was a very educated woman. She attended Catholic Grade School in Polo. She graduated high school at Fairview Catholic High School, also in Polo. She graduated high school in 1944, with valedictorian honors. Aunt Rosie then attended Presentation Jr. College. She finished her bachelor’s degree at Northern State Teachers College. Later she received her masters at Notre Dame.
She taught all levels, grade school, high school, and college. Aunt Rosie did all of this while being a sister in the Presentation Order. It was then, when she took the name, Sister Rosemary. Her chosen feast day is “Our Lady of the Rosary.”
Later in life Aunt Rosie changed paths. She went to work for John Geierand Associates, of Missoula, MT. She traveled coast to coast, as a consultant-speaker. She always found the positive in a person, or the positive in a situation. Her zest for life, and her never ending faith in the lord, were qualities she never faltered from. Aunt Rosie greeted everyone with a huge hug, and a kiss, usually on the lips. Another great quote from her, “If you can’t save the world, at least save your own back yard.” Thank you for the fun memories, and words of wisdom Aunt Rosie. We will miss you.
Rosie is survived by her nieces and nephews: Sr. Cele Loomer, St. Louis, MO, Tom Lommer, Custer, Jerry (Judy) Lommer, The Villages, FL, Ron Eggers, Bonita Springs, FL, Ray (Becky) Martinmaas, Orient, Randy ( Jan) Martinmaas, Orient, Sandy (Larry) Aesoph, Highmore, Kathy (Gary) Remmers, Orient, Paulette (Charlie) Appelhof, Goodwin, Lori (Mike) Kalkman, Miranda, Julie (Rod) Spartz, Kransburg, Mike Martinmaas, Orient, Mary (Tom) Lesselyoung, Redfield, Brad (Shelly) Martinmaas, Orient; and 12 remaining first cousins.
Preceding her in death are her parents: John and Celia Miller; three sisters: Pauline Lommer, Sister Esther Marie Miller, and Wanda Martinmaas; two brothers-in-law: Myron Loomer, and Bill Martinmaas; one niece: Mary Kay (Lommer) Eggers; two nephews: Rick Martinmaas and Lonnie Martinmaas; and one niece-in-law: Janet Martinmaas.
A very special thank you to the Faulkton Health Care Living Center, and the Faulkton Medical Center, for the loving care they gave Aunt Rosie the past eleven years. We are forever grateful. The family would like to thank Father Randy Phillips, and all who helped, or were a part of, or attended Aunt Rosie’s “Celebration of Life” today. Thank you, Knights of Columbus, Polo for the cookies. Please join the family after the burial in the church dining room for lunch and fellowship.
