Tonia Lynn Widow also known as Roxey, was the first-born daughter to Narcisse Widow, and Marlis Afraid of Hawk.
Roxey journeyed to the spirt world on Monday June 14, 2021 at the age of 45. Six days earlier, she celebrated her
birthday, June 8, 1976. Born during a bi-centennial year, celebrations were occurring everywhere. Including the two large
Tiospayes awaiting her birth, Wiwazija (Widow) and Cetan Kokipa (Afraid of Hawk).
Her arrival brought a huge shift in energy within the two Tiospayes. She was welcomed by many aunts, uncles, and
cousins. She was the first-born granddaughter of Ed and Delma Widow. She was a beautiful, sweet baby with coal black
hair, and chokecherry eyes. Her arrival also was celebrated by her parents’ union of marriage. A large gathering of
relatives came to witness this blessed event. Roxey’s parents were kind, loving and patient with her. She had enjoyed
close relationships with her parents and was a daddy’s girl through and through. She gave them the greatest gift,
grandchildren, and she enjoyed being around her own grandchildren of 9, 5 boys, 4 girls.
As a young girl, she traveled with her Grandma Delma, and her aunties to LDS church conferences in Utah. She went to
all the rodeos, pow wows, and carnivals. She loved school at Red Scaffold, and attended Takini, home of the Skyhawks
where she was a vibrant, vocal, and beautiful cheerleader. She made many friends and met many relatives. She was a
good relative and sister by offering refuge and a place to eat.
She met and fell in love with Ferlin Carter. Grandma Delma said Roxey literally fell out of the car trying to get Ferlin’s
attention. That’s when they found out she had a boyfriend. Like her own beginning, Roxey’s first born, Shalynn, was a
highly anticipated event. The welcome party included a group of beautiful highly respected great grandmothers: Delma
Widow, Angeline Afraid of Hawk, and her sisters, Rosalie Dupris, Doris Ward, and Victoria LeClaire.
After Shalynn Marie came Kasten Aaron, named after his dad’s favorite pastime, fishing. Jacine Shawn, who is every bit
like her dad, always the one that Roxey said acted like him. Jordan LaVonne, named after her dad’s mother, who is true to
her mom’s nature, kind and loving. Kailey Lynn, she came to be a strong loving daughter. Roxey said she loved her
artistic ways. Cassie Rae is very athletic and enjoys participating in sports. K’Lynn Nicole was the tiniest baby of all the
girls – so cute and Roxey’s baby girl. Years and years of Kasten being the lone wolf, he gained four brothers, Mason
Kade, Winston Thomas, Lanston Narcisse, and Maxton James.
The one great thing Roxey did while on earth was bring many spirits to gain an earthly body. She cared for, loved, and
cherished these children she was entrusted with. To her last day on earth, she worked to get herself better and to get her
boys and girls home. She was a beautiful soul, kind to everyone, no matter the circumstances. She had many friends, who
will miss her calls checking on them. May she always be remembered, dreamt of, thought of, and inspired by. Roxey, we
will always have you by our side till the days fade into the sunset, and we meet again.
She is survived by the family she cherished: Ferlin Carter; children: Shalynn (Travis), Kasten, Jacine, Jordan (Kyler),
Kailey (Raven), Cassie, K’Lynn, Mason, Winston, Lanston, Maxton Widow; grandchildren: Shamauri, J’Leighton, Kylie,
