PIERRE, SD – Ruth Sterrett, 91, of Pierre, SD, died on September 1, 2025, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am, with visitation for one hour prior, on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Burial will take place at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Huron. Memorials can be directed to Countryside Hospice.

Ruth was born on January 12, 1934 to Willie and Gertrude (Pool) Gibson in Prowers County, CO. She grew up in western parts of the United States and in Lamar, CO. She was married to Dale Carver Sterrett on August 20, 1950 in Prowers County, CO and they had two children: Alan and Annette. They moved to Woonsocket, SD in 1955 where they made their home before moving to Huron in 1983 and Pierre in 2000. Ruth worked as a nurse’s aide, custom seamstress and auction clerk throughout the years. She volunteered at Hospice and enjoyed playing cards, knitting and quilting.

Ruth is survived by her son Alan (Teresa) Sterrett and their daughter Alyssa of Pierre; her daughter Annette (Steve) Hinker of Pierre and their children: Neal Hinker (and his son Evan) of Aberdeen and Heidi Light (and her son Gavin) of Fate, TX.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Ole Mae Collins and Isabell Gibson.
