Sandra (Skotvold) Westerman, age 67, completed her earthly journey on November 2, 2022 in Pierre, South Dakota. Sandra was born September 10, 1955 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She was adopted by Selmer and Clarabelle Skotvold of Pierre, South Dakota on February 9, 1956. She graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1973.
Sandra married her best friend and soul mate, Steve Westerman in 1990. In 1999, they moved to San Antonio, Texas so all the family, along with her mom, could be together. Sandra worked as Finance Administrator for the Department of Pharmacology at UT Health Systems. After retirement in 2017, she and Steve followed their dream to live in their RV and volunteer. Sadly, Steve passed away in September 2019 and Sandra was diagnosed with lung cancer and COPD shortly thereafter. Health problems slowly took away her ability to serve and volunteer, so she moved back to Pierre, South Dakota in August 2022. Sandy loved Pierre, the river and being with her sister and brother-in-law. She followed her heart, and continued to be a faithful servant to her Lord.
Sandra is survived by her sister, Sally (Paul) Crouser of Texas. Her stepson, Luke (Lindsay) Westerman and granddaughters, Aubree and Jaycee of Cut Bank, Montana. Her niece, Amy Novak Garrigan of Pierre, South Dakota and her family. A very special person in her life who were always in her heart, Lori Young Weidner of Washougal, Washington.
Even though they were not immediate family, Sandy had many friends who helped her until her last breath was taken. Her angels in Pierre were Kate Boyd, Julie Inman Darger, Jennie Weingart, Terry Lehmkuhl, Patty Knox and many more. Sandy was truly blessed by all of their love during her short stay in Pierre. Her husband and parents proceeded her in death.
Sandra requested that there be no visitation, formal prayer service or funeral. Her final wish was for everyone to take a private moment to reflect on the blessings in their lives. Go take a walk at Oahe Downstream, take a garbage bag and pick up some trash for Sandra. Sandy LOVED picking up trash at Oahe Downstream. She was the “debris queen”. In honor of Sandy, walk, count your blessings and pick up some trash. Sandra leaned heavily on her faith and belief in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. She believed that God walked with her for a reason and will continue to care for those she leaves behind until they can join her in the arms of our Lord. As a final gift, Sandy was an organ donor. Even though she had numerous health problems, she did donate her corneas to help another person.
For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, PAWS in Pierre was very near and dear to Sandy.
