Sandra Lynn was born to Alfred and Alice (Remme) Kannenberg in Rock Island, Illinois on December 6, 1942. She was the youngest of three children, Larry and Barbara. They lived in Rock Island until Sandy was 4 years old, at which time the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Sandy attended Emerson Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1960 at the age of 17. Following graduation, she went on to work as a secretary for Prudential Insurance.

As a teenager, Sandy, was very active in her church. She directed the Junior Choir and sang in the Senior Choir. She loved teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Sandy and her future husband, Ron, had their first date when she was 13. Together they attended a school dance with her cousin, Denny, and her best girlfriend, Pat. They didn’t date again until they were 19 years old. They were engaged in 10 months and married 8 months later on March 14, 1964. They were blessed with two children, Rhonda and Jeffrey.

They lived in Sioux Falls until 1967 when they moved to Huron, SD. Sandy was a stay-at-home mom and babysat other children. They moved to Pierre in 1972. Sandy’s first job, after the children were in junior high, was working at Country King, a fast-food restaurant and after 5 years she went to the SD State Library until her retirement. Sandy always loved her work at the library and made many lifelong friends.

Sandy loved to read, fish with her husband and son, can tomatoes and tomato juice, and play computer games. She served as an active member in the Faith Lutheran Church, participating in the Altar Guild and working with fellow members.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Ron, of 58 years; daughter, Rhonda Peterson of Pierre, SD, and her son, Jeffrey of Pierre, SD; three grandchildren, Tyler Peterson and fiancé Kyla Krogman of Sioux Falls; Nikaela Trujillo and Kenzie Trujillo of Pierre; one great-grandson, Damon Castonguay of Pierre; her brother Larry and wife Jeane Kannenberg of Black Hawk, SD; her husband’s siblings: Doug Peterson and wife Pamela, Hill City, SD, and John Peterson and wife Vicky of Sioux Falls, SD; and several special nieces and nephews. She loved spending time with her children and families. They were the joy of her life and they knew it.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband’s parents, Clarence and Audrey Peterson as well as her step-mom, Marilyn Peterson, sister Barb and her husband, Ramon Renville of Harris, MN.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.
