Sharon Ann was born July 26, 1943, to Vernon and Leona (Runge) Hedge in Tyler, Minnesota, the oldest of six children. The family moved to South Dakota near Wessington living on various farms. Sharon graduated from Wessington High School in 1961. There she met the love of her life, Ray Ross. They were married in 1962 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington. Together they had two children: Melissa and Robert. After marriage, they moved to Tacoma, Washington while Ray was in the service. They returned to South Dakota, living in Alexandria briefly before returning to the Wessington area.
Through the years she worked various jobs. She worked for Elton and Mary Ray Anson at a concession stand during the state fair, eventually buying it from them. She always said if anyone wanted to work in the concessions, they would learn to count back change. In later years, she took care of her mom, always making sure she had what she needed. She was always helping everyone else, making sure they were taken care of before her own needs.
Sharon’s children and especially her grandchildren were so important to her. She loved spoiling them as much as she could. It was important to her to be in their lives.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Ray of St. Lawrence; children: Melissa (Don) Morris and Robert Ross of St. Lawrence; grandchildren: Bowdry, Destrie, and Sabrah Morris; great-granddaughter, Launa Jo-Ann Morris; siblings: Linda (Leonard) Hancock of Mt. Vernon, Dean (Mary) Hedge of Wessington, Kent (Sharon) Hedge of Huron, Diane (Robert) Kokesh of Woonsocket, and Randy (Karen) Hedge of Custer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Leona Hedge.
