Shelly L. Thompson, 57, of LaPlant, entered the spirit world Saturday, May 13, 2023, at her home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at St John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, On The Tree, SD. Wake services will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2023, at the church with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
Shelly L. Thompson was born January 28, 1966, in Eagle Butte, SD to William O. and Eva (Bordeaux) Garreaux.
Shelly attended preschool at Cheyenne Eagle Butte School, and then she attended St. Joseph’s Indian School until she graduated 8th grade. Shortly after, she was fostered by Gene and Ugene Face in Aberdeen SD. She worked numerous jobs while living in Aberdeen. Shelly then moved back to Eagle Butte where she continued working various jobs.
To her first union with Frank C. Cavanaugh; Jamie Lynn, Jeffrie Marie, and Jared Charles were born. She met her husband, Gregory B. Thompson, in 1992. To this union Kayo Ann, Kaitlyn Rose, and Kayson Brynee were born, along with gaining her stepdaughter, Tammy Joy. She loved all of her kids tremendously. Shelly and Greg also raised many kids that they took in as their own. She gained new children everywhere she went, and she was loved and cared for by many.
Shelly cared for her children’s friends as her own. She often had her grandchildren in her home with her. She didn’t turn any child away, and she always made sure her door was open to any of her family who came by. It didn’t matter who you were, she would always make sure you were warm, fed and loved. Shelly always made sure to tell everyone and anyone she loved them.
Shelly is survived by her husband, Greg; children: Jamie (Kendrow), Jeffrie, Jared, Kayo, Kaitlyn, Kayson, Jack T., and Tammy; numerous grandchildren; sisters: Connie, Lori, Billie Rose, Jeri Ellen, Terry, and Delores; brother, Justin; and brother-in-law, Marty Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her three infant children; granddaughter, Joyceann Elizabeth Marshall; parents, William O. and Eva Garreaux; hunka dad, Tommy Thompson; hunka daughter, Katey Gullickson; and mother-in-law, Carol Ann.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Shelly’s arrangements.
