Simon John Antelope, Jr. was born May 8, 1979, in Chamberlain, SD, to Simon John Antelope and Darla Rae Spider.
Simon spent his formative years in Fort Thompson, SD, living with his paternal grandmother, Josephine Big Eagle; great uncle, “Grandpa” Clayton Big Eagle; and aunt, Cheryl Antelope. During his adolescence, he spent more time in Crow Creek with his mother and stepfather, Robert “Buff” Isburg, Jr. He attended school in Chamberlain and later earned his GED.
In 2001, he married Sarah Marie Luurs in Chamberlain. Their son, Simon “Tre” John Antelope III, was born to them shortly thereafter. To support his young family, Simon worked as an assistant manager at the local McDonald’s.
Simon valued family and took being an older brother and a loyal friend to heart. He was known for his comedic relief and for bringing people together so he could DJ his favorite tunes, including his son’s music. He was a proud father. Simon’s way of teasing and the sound of his laughter will be fondly remembered.
Simon had a real passion for sports, both personal and professional. He enjoyed playing basketball, golf, and bowling and was also a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. Simon was also a talented sketch artist with an eye for photo realism. He not only personally designed his tattoos but also laid most of the ink himself.
Simon spent his final years with special friend Christina Millian and her daughter, Jayda Plucker. They made a home together with their cats, Chance and Stephano, and dogs, Soda and Nala, in Rapid City, SD, where he was employed at D&D Truck Wash. They later moved to Winner, SD, where he worked at Dairy Queen until he was no longer able, due to severe neuropathy, which was caused by his 20+ year battle with diabetes.
Simon passed on to the spirit world on Oct. 31, leaving behind his father, Simon; stepmother, Merlyn; four brothers, Samuel Joseph Antelope, Sonny James Antelope, Shean Justin Antelope, and Lee Mark Antelope; a son, Tre’; four aunts, Roberta, Rhonda, Candace, and Penny; two uncles, David, and Robert Jr; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ancestors greeting Simon are his mother, Darla; stepfather, Buff; two sisters, Lisa Marie Antelope and Sheila Joy (Antelope) Miller; paternal grandparents, Josephine and Clifford Antelope; maternal grandparents, Myra Dunn and Robert Spider Sr.; uncle Dean Spider; and aunt, Cheryl Antelope.
