Charla attended Crazy Horse School, Wanblee. SD and Little Wound School, Kyle, SD, where she graduated in May of 2001. On June 8, 2001 she joined the Army, and she served for 17 years until she decided to retire to take care of her family. She went on seven deployments to Iraq and one deployment to Afghanistan. Although she lived in Savannah Georgia, twice a year she would come back to Bridger to visit her family. If she came back in July and January, she would light up Bridger with fireworks, just to impress her children, nieces, and nephews. She loved her Lakota way of life and was proud to be a Lakota Soldier.
