Huey White Wolf was born on December 20, 1966, at Eagle Butte Hospital to the late Sullivan White Wolf Sr. and Lillian White Wolf. He was blessed with two siblings, Kim White Wolf and Crissy White Wolf. Huey lived in Bull Creek until the age of six, when his family moved to Red Scaffold. There, he attended Red Scaffold Head Start and Red Scaffold Day School, later graduating from Faith High School in 1984.
At a young age, Huey was active in sports, including basketball, volleyball, and softball. During high school, he played football and earned an Honorable Mention for the All-Conference Award. After graduation, he enjoyed rodeoing and spending time with his friends—often “raising hell with his buddies.” He also enjoyed the challenges of arm wrestling and Indian leg wrestling.
In 1990, Huey met the love of his life, Michelle Lynette White Wolf. Together, they became proud parents to Colin and Cole White Wolf and later opened their hearts to adopt Larissa “Sling” Nancy True Clown.
Huey played a key role in the construction of Takini School in 1988–89 and dedicated 25 years to serving the school in various roles, including cook, custodian, Special Education paraprofessional, and bus driver. He spent 22 of those years faithfully driving the bus and took great pride in coaching the school rodeo team.
Huey was always actively involved in his children’s lives, supporting their activities and celebrating their accomplishments. Later, he worked for the Cheyenne River Gas Company for five to six years.
A talented and adventurous spirit, Huey was a finalist in the movie Dances With Wolves, proudly riding his horse Cochise in the film. He was a gifted cowboy who qualified for the INFR and competed many times in the GPIRA, showcasing his love for rodeo.
Huey enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, from playing pool, cutting cards, and rolling dice to hunting and listening to his favorite music—Hank Williams Jr., classic country, AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” and George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone.” If you knew Huey, you knew he loved having a good time, and he could often be found at Lone Tree Bar, sharing laughs and stories.
In 2018, Huey proudly became a grandfather to Kayson White Wolf, and in 2019, he welcomed Weston White Wolf. He cherished every moment with his grandsons. He was proud of his daughter-in-law, Vanessa White Wolf, and often spoke highly of her cooking. Huey warmly welcomed Jeremy Arumpac into the family, embracing him with love and respect.
In 2003, Huey and his family returned to Bull Creek, where he continued to cherish his horses, his family, and the simple joys of life. Huey’s legacy is one of love, laughter, dedication, and community. A man whose heart was as big as his spirit, and whose memory will live on in the lives of all who knew him. We will all miss his smile and warm hugs!
