Tamra Counts (Tuntland) passed away suddenly in Mobridge, SD, she was only 37 years old. She began her journey to the spirit world February 13th, 2024. The funeral will be held Saturday, February 24th at the St Philomena Catholic Church in Selfridge, ND at 1pm. A meal will follow after the funeral at the Selfridge High School. Please dress casually or ribbon skirts/shirts are welcome as well!
Tamra was born on September 23, 1986 to Jeff and Julie (Landeis) Tuntland in Bismarck, ND. She grew up on Standing Rock and loved spending time on her Grandpa Pete’s farm with her cousins. She had many fond memories of the farm. She used to watch her Grandma Tillie make bread when she was a little girl.
Tamra had a lot of hobbies including fishing. Every summer she would enjoy fishing on the banks of Lake Oahe. Her favorite pastime memory was fishing with Uncle on his fishing boat. This love of fishing extended into her adult years which she taught her boys how to fish. She was also a hunter and went with her dad hunting every year growing up. She played basketball in middle and high school and swam for the Farmington swim team. She visited Denver, CO where she saw her first Denver Broncos game and since then, she has been a dedicated fan. She has many fond memories of horseback riding, fishing and gardening.
In her teens, she lived in Farmington, Minnesota, where she met her good friends whom she kept in touch with for over twenty years. After high school, she stuck to business and worked at TFC bank for many years. While in Minnesota, she met her husband Ryan Counts in 2005. Together they stayed in Burnsville where they had their sons Julian and Riley. She soon moved to Saint John where she worked in a bank for a few years.
Tamra moved back to Mobridge, SD to be closer to her dad and sisters. She bought a house in Mobridge and soon had her daughter Baylee. Here she started selling her delicious Indian Tacos and a variety of food. She liked to cook, a skill she developed over time and had a dream of owning her own food truck. Tamra put a lot of thought and effort into her food. She worked at Great Plains Restaurant and then got a job at Grand River Casino as the GM assistant. Tamra wanted to get her degree in business and attended Sitting Bull College. Her favorite thing was being with family and watching WWE with her family. She liked video games and was a Sims fan. One thing about Tamra was she had a love of frogs/toads. Frog gnomes were often found in her garden which she had to have every year. She also loved Betty Boop.
Tamra is survived by her husband Ryan of 18 years, her boys Julian and Riley and her little girl Baylee. She leaves behind her dad, Jeff Tuntland and her two sisters and their families, Tasha and Tonya. Tamra also thought of Gary and Cindy Counts as her own parents along with her brothers in law: Jesse and Steven Counts and sister-in-law: Rhea. Tamra had many nieces and nephews: many of whom looked to her as a mom. She has many cousins she grew up with, too many to mention. She also leaves behind her furry protectors, Peachy Girl and Meeka. My sister had a love for black cats and with this, she leaves behind Penny. She always used to joke, “A witch has to have her black cat.”
She is reunited with our mother Julie in the Spirit World. Our infant siblings, Corey and Tristan. Our Paternal Grandma Imogene Onehawk, our maternal grandparents, Tillie and Pete Landeis. She is welcomed home by her godfather Lee Harshe whom she loved very much. There are many more who welcomed her to the Spirit World and apologize to those whom we may have forgotten.
