Theresa Big Eagle, 45, of Fort Thompson, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Avera McKennan Hospital , Sioux Falls.
Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Catherine’s Hall, Big Bend, rural Harrold with Father Christianius Hendrik, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Big Bend. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2021 and Monday, May 24, 2021 at the church.
Theresa Arlene was born on August 7, 1975 in Pierre, South Dakota. She was the second child of five to Lyman Brad Big Eagle and Naomi Chapman.
She was involved in basketball and volleyball during her years at Crow Creek Tribal School which she graduated from in 1994. She was the CHR to the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.
Theresa took office technology classes at the Right Turn in Pierre, South Dakota. In 2007, she started working at the Pierre Indian Learning Center until 2017.
She met Soloman Brent Long Chase and from this union they were blessed with three beautiful children: Jalen, Janelle and Johanna. Her family was her number one priority no matter what.
She was strong, independent, loving, kind, hard-working and nurturing, always opening her house to anyone. She loved beading, quilting, playing softball, loved spending time with friends and hosting family events.
She will be greatly missed by her three children: Jalen, Janelle and Johanna Long Chase; special granddaughter, Brylee Howe; nephew, Hunter Big Eagle; mother, Naomi Chapman; brothers: Alvin Chapman, James Big Eagle, Dale Red Water, Lonnie Big Eagle, and Brad Big Eagle; sisters: Mary Jo Red Water, Jennifer Big Eagle, Joanna St. John, Lila Red Tomahawk-Kirkie, and Cheyenne Red Water; many nieces and nephews; and lots of grandkids.
Preceded in death by father, Lyman “Brad” Big Eagle; brothers: Kevin Chapman and Robert Red Water; grandma, Nelda Lambie; grandparents: Lyman and Arlene Big Eagle; aunts: Margaret Gonazales, Phyllis Danielson, Marie Engdahl, Glenda Chapman, Rena Carry Mocassin and Eloise Ducheneaux; uncles: Darrell Lambie, Alvin Chapman and James Chapman; special extended family: Loren “Rocky” Fallis and Kristena Herman.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Theresa’s arrangements.
