Funeral services for Thurlow (Porky) Ralph Ross, 70, of Pierre, SD will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ft. Thompson, SD with burial in Lakeview Catholic Cemetery at Ft. Thompson. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Hall.
Thurlow ‘Porky” Ross “Hunka Brother” was born on January 14th 1952 to Cecelia Ross and Ralph Medicine Cedar-Green in Chamberlain South Dakota.
Thurlow attended school at Immaculate Conception in Pierre, SD and Crow Creek High School, Stephan, SD. Porky grew up in East Pierre and Fort Thompson making life-long friends. He was well known for his enthusiasm for sports, especially basketball, football, baseball, and softball. He was a diehard DALLIAS COWBOY fan and a lifelong fan of the Crow Creek Chieftains. He loved the saying or quote “ONCE A CHIEFTAIN ALWAYS A CHIEFTAIN.” You could usually find him and Linus at one of the home games reminiscing of their high school days.
Thurlow was well-known for painting houses and working various construction jobs around the Pierre area. He also worked as a ranch hand for many ranchers and farmers for many years. Uncle Porky never had any children but loved all of his Nieces, Nephews and Grandchildren as his own. He was greatly saddened by the loss of a dear nephew, Sonny.
Thurlow passed away on April 26th 2022 at the age of 70 years, and 102 days, due to health complications. He is survived by nieces: Lou Ross of Sioux Falls, Brenda Ross of Huron, Diane Ross, Sis Ross, Leslie Ross and Ursula Ross all of Fort Thompson. Nephews: Phillip Hockett Ross of Pierre. Bryant Ross, Dennis Ross, Philander Ross and Tommy Thompson all from Fort Thompson.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Althea, Amy Marie, Ester, Irene and several half brothers and sisters. On behalf of the family, we would like to express our gratitude. WOPIDA TANKA!!!
