Toby Putzier, 83, of Pierre, SD, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. There will be a luncheon at the Pierre Senior Center following the inurnment.

Toby Orval Putzier has born January 26, 1940, in Tripp County to Orval Hugh Putzier and Loretta Mae Green. The family moved from Winner SD to Pierre SD in 1957 where he graduated from T. F. Riggs High School in 1958.

Toby married Evelyn Longland on September 17, 1959. Toby worked various jobs until his 2 sons were raised.

Toby was a life long Green Bay Packer fan. He converted one son, and the other son was an Oakland Raider fan for some unknown reason. In 1979 Toby realized his occupational dreams when he purchased a farm east of Pierre that would support cows, sheep, and hogs.

His enjoyment was anything that included horses which was Polo, Wagon Trains, day riding for other ranchers, working at the sale barn. He also liked training and raising hunting dogs.

While raising his family he enjoyed water skiing, boating, and camping. Many weekends were spent camping on Dump Island. His sons played polo with him, went raccoon hunting, coyote hunting, deer hunting, and duck hunting.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Evelyn, two sons Jeff (Jackie) and Mike (Lynne), 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his surviving siblings Pat (Alan) Winters and Monte Putzier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Tom Putzier, and one sister Judy Chilstrom.
