Tom Weisgram, 83, Java, SD, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at his son’s home in Aberdeen, SD.
Thomas Dean Weisgram, son of Lydia (Dufloth) and Frank Weisgram, was born at Mobridge, SD on February 16, 1940. He was brought up in Java, attended Java Public School, and graduated with the JHS Class of 1958. He then worked on the crew that built the Oahe Bridge. Tom married Susan Darling at Java on September 10, 1961. He served his country in the United States Army, being inducted March 14, 1963. Following his honorable discharge on March 1, 1965, he and Susan settled in Java. Tom took employment with the Walworth County Highway Department as a mechanic. Susan died March 7, 2002. After 48 years of service, Tom retired in 2008 and lived the rest of his life in Java. He married Dixie (Quenzer) Lehrkamp at Aberdeen on January 10, 2020. Tom was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. He was active in his community, having served, just as his dad did, as a longtime Java Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief. He also was on the Java and Selby School Boards. Tom was an avid fisherman and motorcycle rider. He also enjoyed woodworking, paint by numbers, and jigsaw puzzles.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dixie; one son, Patrick (Sheri) Weisgram of Aberdeen; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step children—Laura and Kody; five step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
In addition to Susan, he was preceded in death by his father, Frank, on April 22, 1972; his mother, Lydia, on October 26, 1990; and one brother, Harvey, on December 24, 2020.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Brian Nies. Interment, with military graveside rites by the Frederick Schauer American Legion Post No. 100, Selby, SD, follows at the Church Cemetery. Pianist will be Carol Fiedler and the congregation will sing “Nearer, My God to Thee”, “Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “It is Well”. Ushers will be Les Noess and Carlyle Bieber.
Casketbearers will be Ron Greger of Stratton, CO; Allen Frost of Hoven, SD; Tom’s grandson, Thomas Weisgram of Northville, SD; Brother-in-law, Paul Darling of Aberdeen; son-in-law, Alex Rueda of St. Joseph, MN; and Gary Byre of Glenham, SD.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:30 PM Sunday at Lien Funeral Chapel, Selby.
