Valerie Kay Sandmeier was born July 25,1962 to Arthur and Virginia Sandmeier at Bowdle SD; the fourth of five children; Peggy Lee, Bradley Arthur, Carmen Quinn, and Kelly Eugene. The family lived on a farm north of Bowdle. They moved to Mobridge shortly after the horrible snowstorm of March 66’ when Valerie and all her siblings had been hospitalized for mumps and flu. She loved the family animals, especially the dog.
Valerie attended Zion Lutheran and Mobridge Public School; graduating with the Mobridge High School class of 1980. Following graduation, Valerie moved to Sturgis, where she met Dean Eilert. Together they had three children; Jennifer Lynn, Jason Edward and Jaimie Lee.
Valerie and her family moved to California where she was extremely loved by her former colleagues, family & friends. Val worked at the Humane Society for several years and had other jobs as well. Val was a bit of a rebellious free spirit and loved live concerts and rock & roll music. She traveled between Mobridge and California for a few years until she moved permanently to Mobridge in 2012. Val stayed with Duane and Carmen Gisi until January 2022. Val worked at Grand River Casino for over six years where she met her closest friends and coworkers. She was very proud of her work as she was named employee of the month three times in six years and received a beautiful star quilt from Grand River Casino. She was also a involved in the Mobridge Garden Club.
Val loved dogs and being with Carmen and her family; helping raise and watch the animals. She also loved to read true story novels. Val wanted to be a snow-bird (part-time in California and part-time in South Dakota). She did not like the SD winters. Valerie was a warrior and an awesome down to earth woman and a good friend. She was the best mother-in-law ever.
