Valerie Swan, 69, of Cheyenne River, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MDT, Monday, September 6, 2021, at the CRST Bingo Hall, Eagle Butte, with an 8:30 a.m. procession from the 4-mile east of town. Burial will follow the service in the LDS Cemetery, Cherry Creek. CRST Guidance for funerals during the pandemic will be followed, please wear a mask.
Valerie Marie Swan was born August 15, 1952 to Manuel and Angeline (Condon) Swan at Cherry Creek, SD. She received her education in Idaho with her Idaho gang of 1973, graduating from Malad City, ID. Following her graduation, Valerie began her missionary work for the Latter-Day Saints. She performed her missionary duties for 18 months in Canada.
Valerie loved life. She was always a caring person. She worked several jobs, enjoying her time at Tribal Child Care Center where she was employed under the foster grandparent program.
Valerie is survived by her children: Orby Swan, Anjelica Oroperz, and Adeline Swan; grandchildren: Ann Adeline Swan, Roman Oropeza Jr., Lecia Swan, Honey Oropeza, Gracie Hernandez, Jaden Oropeza, Harlem Jimenez, Aleia and Angelic Swan, Ila Oropeza, and Carter Swan; sisters: Aurelia Cisneros (died 08/29/2021) and Pamela (Enrique) Castro; hunka brothers: Richard Red Elk and Calvin Edwards; aunts: Rita Condon and Jeanette Condon; uncles: Skinny Condon, Reggie Condon, and Harold (Geraldine) Condon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel and Angeline Swan; son-in-law: Roman Oropeza; sisters: Madonna Swan Demery, Irene, Lara, and Nola Swan; brother, James Swan; grandparents: James and Lucy Swan and Silas and Mary Condon.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Valerie’s arrangements.
