Vera Elizabeth Eberhart, 101, Eureka, SD, died February 26, 2024 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 PM, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Saving Grace Community Church (formerly Eureka United Methodist), Eureka, led by Pastor Shawn Abbas and Leonard Eberhart. Interment follows at the Eureka Cemetery.
Vera Elizabeth, daughter of Martin and Christina (Kessler) Grosz, was born January 23, 1923 at Hillsview, SD. She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. R. Knaus. She attended school near Eureka. Vera and Rueben Eberhart were married September 24, 1944 by Pastor G. Keppler in the Hosmer Congregational Church, Hosmer, SD. Rueben and Vera became members of the Sutley EUB Church in rural Java near the Eberhart home farm. Later they transferred to the Eureka United Methodist Church. Vera and Rueben were counselors of the Youth Fellowship. Vera was the pianist at the Sutley Church and later organist at the Eureka UMC. She also accompanied the Men’s Chorus.
Vera and Rueben were leaders for the Sunnyside 4-H Club. Vera had been the President of the Hospital Auxiliary as well as President of the Busy Belles Club. Vera worked with Hulda Dais, her cousin, for several years doing painting and finishing of woodwork in many homes. Vera’s hands were never idle, as they were involved in gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking or games of all kinds. She approached everything with a spirit of joy and much laughter.
In 1977 the Eberharts retired from the farm and moved into their new home in Eureka. In 2002 they sold their home to Ron and Ruby Gab and moved into an apartment. Due to health reasons, Rueben was admitted to the Avera Eureka Health Center on May 11, 2010. Vera and Rueben celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on September 24, 2010. Rueben died on July 4, 2011.
Vera is survived by her children: Leonard, (Diane), of Grinnell, Iowa his daughters Tawnya (Vernon) Coates and Erin (Shawn) McGargill, and grandchildren Acacia and Oliva Coates, Calleigh, Louisa and Harrison McGargill.

Karen (Warren) Reimer of Norfolk, NE, son Joel (Erin) and their children Jackson (Lizzy) and Isabelle Reimer.
Patty (Gerald) Haupt of Eureka, and children Lori and Clayton Haupt and grandchildren Payge and Jacob Haupt.
In addition to Rueben, she was preceded in death by her father, Martin, on July 16, 1973; her mother, Christina, on January 25, 1927; stepmother, Rose Grosz; brothers, Elmer and Gilbert Grosz; grandson, Ryan Spitzer; sister-in-law, Fernella Grosz; niece, LaVonne Bertsch; and sister-in-law, Arlene Grosz.
