Violet Rau of McLaughlin, South Dakota
December 23, 1917 – November 30, 2020
Violet Rau age 102 of Aberdeen formally of McLaughlin passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at Mother of Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, SD. Private family services will be held. A public visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, December 11, 2020, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Violet Grace (Salzsiedler) Rau, was born December 23, 1917 in rural Campbell County, to Emanuel and Freida Salzsiedler. She married Leo Rau on November 24, 1938 in McLaughlin. They had two children together, Bonnie and Gary. While they were married they enjoyed farming and loved to travel. After retirement they made Rapid City their home for several years, until Leo passed. Violet went back to McLaughlin and resided in the McLaughlin Manor. Later moving to Prairie Sunset Village in Mobridge, a few years later she moved to the Mobridge Care Center. After the closing of the Mobridge Care Center she made the move to Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, where she peacefully passed away on November 30, 2020 at the age of 102 and 343 days.
Violet Rau was a loving mother and wife. She lived a strong Christian life, each and everyday.
When talking she never failed to remind you how thankful she is. She loved baking kuchen, caramel rolls, delicious raised donuts, and everyone’s favorite homemade chocolate waffles. A goal Violet and Leo had, was to visit all the states. They visited Hawaii before it was a state. As well as going to Russia for a farm tour, Germany, Philippines, and the Holy Land. Violet enjoyed being involved in the community; she was a Sunday school teacher, the President of Ladies Group E.U.B., youth leader, mission band leader, the President of hospital auxiliary, baker at McLaughlin School.
Violet is survived by; her daughter Bonnie (Arnie) Schott of McLaughlin, daughter in law, Janet Rau in Mobridge, Grandkids, Jayde (Kristi) Schott of Aberdeen, Jamie (Donna) Schott of Lakewood, Dayne Schott of Sioux Falls, Sonda (Greg) Tople of Aberdeen, Shelly (Brad) Gauer of Watertown, Ken (Lana) Rau of Mobridge, LeeAnn (Michael) Buckmiller of Fargo, 19 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leo, her parents, Emanuel and Freida Salzsiedler, three sisters, Erna, Virginia, Betty, son, Gary, Grandson, Clark, Great-Grandson, Logan.
