Virginia “Ginger” Christman was born January 13, 1948, in Lemmon, SD, to Rhieny and Kathryne (Gossman) Christman. She was the first born of eleven children in the Christman family. She attended grade school at St. Mary’s in Lemmon, SD until her family transitioned to Mobridge, SD. Following their move in January of 1963, she attended Mobridge High School, where she was always eager to share her voice and talents by participating in debate, choir, and speech. Ginger was also recognized as the Mobridge Homecoming Queen and Snow Queen. Following high school, she continued her education at South Dakota State University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Political Science.
After college, Ginger embarked on a journey that took her from South Dakota to Denver, where she met CR “Bob” Webb. She later moved to Salem, OR and then settled in Spokane, WA, before returning home to Mobridge, SD, in 2020. Throughout her life, Ginger wore many hats – she owned and trained racehorses, sold cars between racing seasons, and, upon returning to Mobridge, she always lent a helping hand at Rick’s Café and Rick’s Salt.
Ginger had a knack for making people feel special and heard. She had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. She journaled daily, sewed, and will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her heartfelt, handwritten cards and letters. Ginger also loved flowers, gardening, board games, and reading, all which brought her great happiness.
Ginger was best known for her vast knowledge of sports. She passionately followed the Seattle Seahawks, Mariners, and Gonzaga basketball team. Even with these teams playing in the Pacific Time Zone, her dedication never wavered; she stayed up late into the night to catch every game, no matter how late it went. Beyond cheering for her own teams, she made it a point to keep up with the favorite teams of her family and friends, ensuring she always had a thoughtful conversation ready for the next time she saw one of them.
Not only will she be remembered for selfless personality, but also her grit and toughness. A true fighter, Ginger was a proud 25+ year breast cancer survivor. Her resilience and strength were an inspiration to all who knew her, and she faced every challenge in life with courage and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and devotion to those she loved.
Ginger is survived by her sisters Diane Christman of Mobridge, SD; Mary Luening of Onalaska, WI, and Nancy (Tom) Hepper of Wing, ND, as well as sister-in-law Judy Christman of Selby, SD, and brothers Steve Christman of Mobridge, SD and Jeff (Marlene) Christman of Pollock, SD. Ginger’s love extends to her nieces and nephews, Jody Christman, Erin Reisner, Nichole Heagy, Grant Leuning, Emily Lathara, Grace Gleason, Jack Leuning, Anna Leuning, Rudie Lee, Cash Hepper, Lindsey Bachman, Brent Odde, Brian Odde, Ross Odde, and great nieces and nephews Shane, Seth, Maycee Griffin, Kailina, Cyrus, Eliza, Hattie, Lilly, Bryar, and Baylor.
