Sidney Bown was born May 23, 1918, at the family ranch in Northeast Sully County, SD. He was the sixth of eight sons born to James and Clara (Wilding) Bown on the family ranch.
He attended East Cora rural school until the 8th grade and worked on the family ranch with his seven brothers until his marriage to Lorraine Hord on April 18, 1942.
Sidney and Lorraine moved from the family ranch to one mile east and started their own cattle herd, farming and ranching. He spent 54 years farming and ranching.
