Warren Hall, 86, of Pierre, SD, passed away peacefully at home Sunday evening, November 8, 2020, with one of his sons by his side.  Warren was born to Claude and Susie Fern (Gillam) Hall on January 29, 1934, in Sturgis, SD.

Warren grew up on several farms from Rock Creek south of Roswell, to the farm north of Canova, and finally the farm north of Howard in Miner County, SD.  He graduated from Howard High School.

At the age of 17 Warren joined the US Navy where he found a new passion for and studied electronics.  He would boast how he was top of his class during his Naval academics and then smile and give an explanation about DC electronics.  Warren served his country on both the USS Aludra (AF-55) and the USS Uvalde (AKA-88) as the ship’s Interior Communications Electrician.  Warren took great pride being a Navy sailor and veteran for our county.

After being honorably discharged, Warren returned to SD and decided to try something different than farming.  His ambition moved him to try many job opportunities across SD.  During this period Warren married MaryAnn Hawkinson and had four sons; Wayne, Darren, Myron, and Brendt.  They settled in Brookings and he started his career at 3M, where he retired.  He took satisfaction working at 3M.  To show his appreciation and respect to his colleagues, on his last day of work he wore a tuxedo.

In his retirement, he took on the adventure of RV living and the lifestyle of a snowbird and wintered in Tucson, AZ.  Warren joined a hiking group and logged a good number of hikes in the deserts of AZ.  While in AZ, he was very active and explored caves, mountain summits, national parks, museums, dance, theatre, and chuckwagon dinner shows to list a few.

Warren loved the outdoors.  Camping, fishing, hunting, or hiking were among his favorites, but what he was best at was helping others learn how to respect and enjoy the wilderness by inviting them out to experience it for themselves.  He also was a very active member and devoted many resources to the Optimist Club in Brookings.  Because Warren accepted people as people, no matter what, he truly was a friend to all.

Gideons became a lifestyle for Warren beginning in 2007 when he met Delcie (Gross) Schofield at Hart Ranch near Rapid City, SD.  After a brief courtship they were married at Pierre, SD where they also made their home.  Warren took great joy in helping with Gideon testament distributions especially at the U of Az sometimes giving over 100.  He also attended several Gideon Conventions and Faith Fund Rallies.   Warren and Delcie enjoyed spending the winter months in Tucson, where they made many lasting friendships.  They even took square dance lessons.  They were very attentive in church functions both in Pierre and Tucson, as well as Gideon camp meetings in both places.   Another highlight were the many cruises they were able to experience.  Warren’s favorites were the cruise around the Hawaiian Islands and the tour of Pearl Harbor and the cruise through the Panama Canal.  Summer months were spent at Hart Ranch, or visiting friends and family at reunions, graduations and weddings. They also took several bus trips.  Trips to Canada, Rose Bowl Parade; Pasadena, CA and Branson, MO were his favorite.  After Warren’s health declined traveling became limited but the wealth of reminiscences and lasting friendships were a great blessing.  Warren was a great man who planted many seeds sharing his faith in his Lord and Savior.

Warren is preceded in death by his infant sister Beverly, parents, and wife of 35 years MaryAnn.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Delcie Schofield Hall, brother Claude (Shirley), sister Sharon (Joe), sons and families; Wayne (Lori), Darren (Lori), Myron (Nichole), Brendt, and grandchildren: Kaylyn (Jeremiah), Ryan (Kendra), Justus, Colton (Alyssa), Sunny, Taylor, Sage, Makayla, Trevor and great grandchildren: Lola, Carlie, Jericho, Jonah, William, and Landen. Delcie’s family:  Daryl (Lisa) Schofield, Darla (Mark) Mayer, Davis (Ari) Schofield.   Her grandchildren: Taylor, Kaitlyn, Sierra and Jackson.  Brittanie (Joe), Matt (Taryn), Nate (Elise) Dan (Kelsey), Jacob, and Eliza. Delcie’s Mom: Rebecca; and sister Jolene (Jerry).

The family requests memorials instead of flowers or plants.  Warren’s family would suggest contributions to Gideons International, First Baptist Church, or Countryside Hospice.
