Wayne Paul Claymore, age 79, of Ridgeview, SD, entered the Spirit World on Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home in Box Elder, SD.
Wayne was born on July 5, 1944 to Paul Amos and Blanche (Vasser) Claymore of Ridgeview, SD on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. Wayne lived a full and complete life. Wayne grew up on a ranch in Ridgeview SD, attended Bishop hare Boarding School, graduated high school from Todd High School, was a golden glove boxer, set long distance records at Todd County High School, attended Black Hills State, was a tribal police officer in Rosebud and Ft. Thompson, held an appointed position as an Attorney General of South Dakota, and worked on oil rigs in Montana until he returned to Eagle Butte, SD to care for his elderly father Paul Amos Claymore.
Wayne Paul Claymore, Sr. is survived by his sister Geraldine Gray, Aberdeen, SD; his son Wayne Paul Claymore, Jr, Ring Thunder, SD; and his four daughters: Paula Jean Claymore, St. George, UT; Pollyanna Rhett Laden, Rapid City, SD; Sophie Claymore, Martin, SD; Monique Coats, New Underwood, SD; along with 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A wake service will begin at 7:00 PM, Monday, October 23, 2023 at St. John’s Episcopal Church at Eagle Butte, SD. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 24, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, with Church Staff Mother Ellen Huber and Deacon Iva Traversie assisting and Rev. James Marrs officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery at LaPlant, SD, with a luncheon to follow the burial.
Funeral services have been placed in the care of Rooks Funeral Services at Star Nation Center at Eagle Butte.
