Yvonne Rau, 82, Eureka, SD, died Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the Eureka Community Hospital.
Yvonne Alvida Jeschke, daughter of Golda (Semmler) and Reuben Jeschke, was born December 9, 1937 three miles east and one mile south of Roscoe, SD. Her formal education consisted of Fischer rural School, one year of Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD, and Roscoe High School, Class of 1955. Yvonne married Harvey Rau at Roscoe on June 12, 1955. They lived on a farm north of Java, SD. In September 1956 Harvey entered the United States Army. Following his discharge in 1958, he and Yvonne settled on a farm they purchased eight miles west and 10 miles south of Eureka. In 1990, the couple retired and moved into Eureka. Harvey died October 25, 2014 and Yvonne continued living in Eureka the rest of her life. Yvonne was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. In 1993 she joined Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka where she organized dozens of funeral luncheons. She also belonged to the Eureka Garden Club and a card club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, and having coffee with her friends. She was famous for her pickles and canned until the end of her life.
Yvonne is survived by three sons—Brad Rau and Scott (Brenda) Rau of Java, and Todd (Shonda) Rau of Eureka; one daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Granum, of Volga, SD; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to Harvey, she was preceded in death by her father, Reuben, on December 14, 2006; her mother, Golda, on October 24, 2014; her brother, Duane; her sister, Arlyce Gimbel; and her grandson, Logan Rau.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Zion American Lutheran Church, Eureka, led by Pastor Ryan Gage. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Pianist and vocalist will be Ronda Lapp and ushers will be Donald Gab and Gerald Haupt. A recording of “The Garden” be Jimmy Scott will be played and Ronda will sing “Beautiful Savior” and “When We All Get to Heaven”.
Honorary bearers will be Courtney Granum, Chelsey Granum, Chantel Granum, TiAnn Boggs, Kadyn Rau, Jenna Hanson, and Nikki Wald.
Casketbearers will be Landis Wald of Sioux Falls, SD; Tyler Hanson of Prior Lake, MN; Keeyn Rau of Minneapolis, MN; Keith Tarbox of Eureka; Dan Kruse of Volga; and Randy Boggs of Java.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka, and resumes 10:00 AM Thursday at the Church.
Yvonne’s family would like to extend gratitude for the help given to their mom by Wes Hilgeman, Jim Weber, and Douglas Balliet.
