The Fort Pierre City Council has approved extending the town’s agreement with its electricity supplier through 2067.
City Electric Department Superintendent Terry Schroer says the agreement with Missouri River Energy Services was last reviewed in 2016. He says the agreements typically cover a 40 year timespan.
Schroer says this agreement includes green energy certificates.
Fort Pierre City Attorney Aaron Schiebe says this agreement includes some minor updates from the previous one, but it also includes one substantial change that relates to reselling power.
Fort Pierre purchases its electricity from Missouri River Energy Services and the Western Area Power Administration– or WAPA.
The updated power agreement was approved unanimously.
