The man killed in a small plane crash in southeastern South Dakota Sunday afternoon was a native of Pierre.
Authorities say Comet Haraldson told air traffic controllers of a medical issue shortly before the single-engine aircraft went down. Controllers say they asked him to put the plane down on a road or field to avoid losing consciousness while airborne, but Haroldson didn’t respond. The plane crashed a short time later. He was the only person on board.
Haraldson was an attorney at the Woods Fuller Shultz and Smith law firm in Sioux Falls.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
