The Pierre City Commission has voted to proceed with a proposal for replacing the town’s 90-plus year old outdoor pool.
Outdoor Pool Committee co-chair Mike Mueller says after over a year of research and four public meetings, the group came up with five recommendations.
The Commission also accepted a bond resolution to pay for the facility.
Mayor Steve Harding says the city will use retired debt service to pay for the $6.5-million base project.
Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the project is scalable, with any additional features included as a la carte items based on private financial support.
Additional items under consideration are a lazy river, water slides or an extension of the 25-meter multipurpose pool to a 50-meter multipurpose pool.
