A 26 year old Pierre man is charged with petty theft, 1st degree burglary, and ingestion of a controlled substance after breaking into a home early Saturday morning (May 4, 2024, 12:40am).
The Pierre Police Department says Patrol responded to the 500 block of W. Dakota Avenue in Pierre for a stranger entering a residence. Patrol Officers arrived and learned that an unknown subject had entered the home while the residents were sleeping. The subject had left the house before the arrival of the officers, but a subject matching the description was seen running away from the vicinity of the residence.
An officer was able to locate the subject, identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Jewett. He was found to be in possession of multiple items that had been stolen from the residence. Due to Jewett’s demeanor, it was determined that he was likely under the influence of a controlled substance. Jewett was arrested and taken to the Hughes County Jail.
