Council approved setting up a bank account that will be specific for K9 with Officer Nate Pepin and Chief Shawn Madison as signers, and they approved the advertising for an additional police officer. Chief Madison stated his number one concern being officer safety, with an increase in meth and alcohol-related crime.
2019 seasonal park employees were approved, with one new hire coming from the street department.
Public hearings and approval of temporary liquor/malt beveragelicenses were given to the Chamber and to the Mobridge Rodeo Association. Public hearing and approval of a malt beverage license and wine license for the Family Dollar was also given.
The federal funding agreement for the airport runway project was approved, as was the street chip seal bid from Jensen Rock and Sand.
Mayor Gene Cox read the Arbor Day proclamation and council approved the date of April 26th.
A letter from the Department of Legislative Audit was presented to the council with the state having completed and approved the 2017 audit. The 2018 audit is coming up in May.
Mayor Cox announced that the city park has a landmark tree, called a Northern Catalpa. It is over 55 feet tall and estimated to be over years old, likely planted around the time the city park was originally established.
