Due to excessive rains recently, a sinkhole developed (April 28, 2024) on the north shoulder of the Interstate 90 business loop, approximately one mile east of exit 260 between Chamberlain and Oacoma.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the road has been reopened, but there is a one-lane traffic configuration controlled by stop signs. Motorists should be aware of reduced speeds posted through this area. To avoid the one-lane traffic configuration on the I-90 business loop, motorists should use exits 260 or 263 depending upon their destination.
SDDOT originally had a project planned for next year (2024) to rehabilitate an 11- foot metal culvert that extends from north of the business loop road to the south, under both lanes of I-90. That project timeline has now been expedited. Bid letting is expected to occur before July 1, 2024, with reconstruction work completed during the summer and fall months.
The I-90 business loop between Chamberlain and Oacoma will fully reopen to traffic once the repair work is complete.
