The League of Women Voters of Pierre and the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their first Missouri River Roundtable tomorrow (Jan. 4) from 11am-noon at the Chamber office.
The roundtable will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the state legislature functions. Learn how to follow the issues and legislation that matter to you, and get tips for making your voice heard.
The first Missouri River Roundtable will have the following guests:
- Representative Mary Duvall, who will comment on working in the legislature, detailing successful interactions that she has had with citizens;
- South Dakota Department of Environment & Natural Resources Engineer Kelli Buscher, who will talk about her experience testifying before the legislature, giving insight into how citizens can best make their voices heard on specific issues;
- Secretary of the Senate Kay (“Boots”) Johnson, who will share her behind-the-scenes experience at the legislature, communicating the typical processes for law-making; and
- Legislative Research Council Legislative Attorney Matt Frame, who will inform attendees about the resources and processes of the LRC, focusing on how people can use the LRC to learn about legislative happenings.
The groups plan to hold a roundtable each quarter focusing on a different levels of government, inviting 3-5 expert guests to help attendees learn more about the governmental bodies and processes that affect their lives.
