SIOUX FALLS – Four new members will be inducted into the South Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame this month. Angela Breitag Kopfer and Tonya Breitag Novak, who are Sioux Falls natives, and Chad Larson of Mitchell will be inducted July 19 during the South Dakota Adult Open tournament at McKenna Park.
The Breitag sisters now live in Eagan, Minnesota. They were dominant in high school tennis at Sioux Falls Lincoln. Angela won a number one singles championship and four number one doubles titles, three of which came with Tonya. Tonya won another number one doubles crown and two number one singles. Later, she was a Big Ten All-Academic selection for three years at Minnesota. Angela played at Augustana and twice was a finalist in the North Central Conference.
Larson has been a player, coach, organizer and promoter for tennis in Mitchell since his graduation from Dakota Wesleyan in 1994. He won the United States Tennis Association’s Jack Dow Development Award for the Northern Section in 2016.
Also honored will be Doug Dexheimer of Spearfish with the South Dakota Tennis Achievement Award. Dexheimer has been the head coach of Spearfish High School’s tennis teams for over 20 years.
