This year’s Sitting Bull Stampede has a different feel to it then in the past. For one reason it is the 75th Anniversary and another reason is the Covid 19 Pandemic that has other rodeos not going. So, with that in mind I was handed the event sheets and the book was 13 pages of Cowboys and cowgirls competing for the crowds July 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Tonight there will be some familiar names in the line up like Trenten Montero from Winnemucca Nevada, Jamie Hewlett and Shane O’Connell form Rapid City, Wyatt Denny from Minden Nevada and Pascal Isabelle from Okotoks Alabama all riding in the Bareback event. Ardie Maier from Timber Lake will put his talents on display riding bulls along with a hole host of bull riders. In the tie down roping Tyson Durfrey from Brock Texas will try to get a good time along with Marcus Costa from Menard Texas. The Barrels will see some names you might recognize as well like Kesse Deal from Dupree and Amber Garrett from Pierre along with Rudie Hepper from Wing North Dakota. This year’s Saddle Bronc Contest will see some of the best around and tonight Wyatt Casper from Pampa Texas is going for the eight second ride for all the money. Shorty Garrett from Eagle Butte will have something to say about that and Lane Schulke from Newell will also be there along with Brody Cress from Hillsdale Wyoming, Left Holman from Visalia California and Jake Watson from Hudsons Hope British Colombia. In the Steer Wrestling Avery Jamerman from Riverton Wyoming will try to throw down the steers quickly along with Bridger Anderson from Carrington North Dakota. Of course there will plenty of team roping teams competing. Keep your eyes on the team of Kellan and Carson Johnson from Casper Wyoming along with Jake Cooper from Monument New Mexico and Caleb Anderson from Mocksville North Carolina. All in all it is going to be an exciting night of rodeo starting at 7:30 from the Sitting Bull Stampede Rodeo Grounds.
The Minnesota Twins are expected to have their first full squad workout tomorrow at Target Field as players continue to arrive to summer camp for preliminary COVID-19 testing and physical exams. Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey says the testing results have a 24- to 48-hour turnaround and they are awaiting some final batches of tests. He says all players and coaches will be tested every other day during the summer camp and season, while other staff members will likely have two tests per week. The 60-man roster has been finalized for summer camp and many of the players not anticipated to be part of the Major League roster will have workouts at C-H-S Field in St. Paul, while the rest remain at Target Field for practice. Falvey says they have constructed the 60-man roster with the idea in mind that they can compete for a championship. The 60-game regular season schedule is expected to be released sometime early next week with a projected start date of July 23rd or 24th.
