Fort Pierre recognized for good quality drinking water

Fort Pierre has received a Drinking Water Certificate of Achievement Award from the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

DENR Sec. Hunter Roberts says most customers don’t realize what it takes to meet all of the Safe Drinking Water Act requirements. He says the behind the scenes efforts have been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fort Pierre’s drinking water operation specialists are Vernon Thorson, Joey Montana, Casey Breitag and Shane Pearson.

To qualify for the certificate of achievement, public water systems and their specialist had to meet all of the compliance monitoring and reporting requirements, drinking water standards and certification requirements for 2019.
