HUMBOLDT – Post 8 couldn’t hold a seventh-inning lead Friday and lost their opening game in the New Dakota Classic 2-1 to West Fargo (ND).
Garrett Stout gave the Eights a 1-0 lead with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly. That lead lasted until the top of the seventh, when Drew Clouse stole home to tie the game, then Dustin Mertz gave West Fargo the lead on an RBI infield single. Cobey Carr took the loss despite allowing only three hits.
Post 8 is now 19-10 and will play back-to-back games starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday against West Central Humboldt-Hartford and Sioux Falls East. They likely will need to win both games to have a chance to play in Sunday’s championship game.
