PIERRE – The potential tying run was thrown out at the plate in the final play of the game Friday as the Pierre Trappers fell to the Badlands Big Sticks at Hyde Stadium 3-2.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Trappers rallied, starting with a one-out single by Nick Grossman. Carter Howell singled him to third. With two out, a passed ball scored Pierre’s first run. Cooper McMurray walked and Tyler Ranel then ran for him. Tavian Josenberger doubled into the left-center field gap, scoring Howell. Ranel tried to scoring the tying run, but was tagged out at the plate thanks to relay throws by the Big Sticks’ Cadyn Schwabe and Wyatt Setian. Ranel insisted he was safe, as did Trappers’ head coach Tanner Neale. However, the call stood.
Starting pitcher Noah Parsons took the loss. Former Pierre Governor Peyton Zabel gave up an unearned run and one hit while striking out four in two and two-thirds innings.
The Trappers are 5-11 and will again host Badlands Saturday night at Hyde Stadium at 7:05.
