MADISON – Summer sports and activities in Madison have been suspended since July 8 after a participant tested positive for COVID-19.
Madison Activities Director Michael Ricke told the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, “The safety and well-being of our coaches, athletes, teachers and all staff is our number one priority. Rather than take any risk, as soon as we found out there was a case, we shut down so that we could take some time to do some digging and figure out how much contact this person may have had.”
Ricke said that four participants had tested positive as of Monday and a few others were awaiting test results.
The summer contact period ends on August 3. Students have not been allowed in the building at Madison High School since July 8.
