HARRISBURG – Post 8 broke its three-game losing streak Tuesday by defeating Harrisburg 8-2 in the first game of a doubleheader, but Harrisburg won by run rule in the nightcap, 16-3.
Andrew Coverdale, Garrett Stout and Cade Hinkle drove in runs, then Jack Van Camp hit a two-run single in the fifth to round out the Post 8 scoring in a game where they never trailed. Stout was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits and striking out eight in four and two-thirds innings.
In the second game, Andy Gordon and River Iverson had two-run singles in a three-run first inning for the Eights. But Harrisburg dominated the game after that, scoring four in the first inning, seven in the second, two in the third and three more in the fourth.
Post 8 is now 20-13 and will play five games in three days at the Veterans’ Classic in Rapid City starting Thursday. Post 8 will meet the Post 320 Shooters and Sioux Falls West in back-to-back games Thursday starting at 11:30 AM.
