SIOUX FALLS – The Summit League will bring in the University of St. Thomas for the 2021-22 academic year as its 10th member. St. Thomas was given an unprecedented waiver to jump from Division III to Division I by the NCAA Division I Council.
St. Thomas, which is located in St. Paul, Minnesota, will compete for one more season in the Division III MIAC conference, a league from which they are being forced out because other members are tired of the Tommies’ dominance in most sports. Normally, Division III schools must transition to Division II before being allowed to move up to Division I.
St. Thomas’ football program will play in the Pioneer League and its hockey team will join the WCHA.
Also, the Summit League announced that Northern Colorado will join the league as a baseball-only affiliate member.
