GERING, NE – For the first time this season, the Pierre Trappers have a winning streak. They achieved that with a doubleheader sweep of the Western Nebraska Pioneers Tuesday 6-1 and 8-0.
After the Trappers trailed 1-0 in the first game, a Nick Grossman sacrifice fly tied the game in the third inning and Mitch Stroh’s sacrifice fly in the fourth put Pierre ahead. Grossman and Cooper McMurray singled in runs in a four-run fifth and Carter Howell added a sacrifice fly. Jackson Uner (2-0) struck out six in five innings, allowing just an unearned run and four hits.
Tyler Ranel had a two-run double and three RBI in the second game. Tavian Josenberger had an RBI single and Zach Phelps hit a sacrifice fly. Jake Leger (1-1) was excellent, pitching six scoreless innings and giving up just three hits while striking out six.
Pierre is now 8-11. The Trappers will host the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs at Hyde Stadium Wednesday night at 7:05.
