PIERRE – Carter Howell went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and Ethan Skuija struck out 13 in six innings Thursday as the Pierre Trappers routed the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs 9-1 at Hyde Stadium to split a two-game series.
Howell had an RBI single in a two-run third inning, an RBI double in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh. Tavian Josenberger, Cooper McMurray, Carson Max, Calvin Schonebaum and Noah Berghammer also drove in runs for the Trappers, who had 14 hits.
Skuija (1-0) allowed an unearned run and five hits. Former Pierre Governor Peyton Zabel earned the save by pitching the last three innings, allowing just one hit.
The Trappers are now 9-12 and will begin a two-game series with the Fremont Moo on the road Friday night before returning to Hyde Stadium to meet Fremont Sunday at 2:05 and Monday at 7:05.
