RAPID CITY – Post 8 made a great start in the Veterans’ Classic Thursday at Fitzgerald Stadium with two decisive wins, 8-0 over the Post 320 Shooters and 14-0 over Sioux Falls West.
AJ Goeden pitched a five-hit shutout over the Post 320 Shooters, striking out three while walking only one. Jack Van Camp tripled, singled and drove in two runs. Matt Lusk and Andy Gordon each recorded two hits and an RBI. Garrett Stout, Maguire Raske and Colin Brueggeman also drove in runs.
Stout led off the win over Sioux Falls West with a homer. Goeden had a three-run double later in a six-run first inning and drove in four runs. Andrew Coverdale was four-for-four with two RBI. Stout and Lusk also drove in two runs each. Raske had two hits and an RBI. River Iverson had two hits. Overall, Post 8 rapped out 13 hits. On the mound, Lincoln Keinholz allowed just three hits in five innings while striking out six.
Post 8 is 22-13 and fourth in the seeding standings among “A” Legion teams. They will play two more games Friday in Rapid City, back-to-back against the 406 Flyers of Billings, Montana and Rapid City Post 22, starting at 7:00 CT. Then, Post 8 will meet Gillette (WY) Saturday at 2:00 CT.
