SIOUX CITY, IA – The Great Plains Athletic Conference, which includes South Dakota member institutions Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty, Tuesday reaffirmed its intention to go ahead with fall sports in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement released by the conference said in part, “The health and well-being of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and communities in the GPAC is our top priority. The GPAC is taking all necessary actions to help our campuses and communities address this public health crisis. We remain committed to providing a positive and safe experience for our GPAC student-athletes.”
Earlier, the NAIA mandated that fall practices cannot begin until August 15. Football games cannot begin earlier than September 12, and competition in all other fall sports cannot start earlier than September 5.
